JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) Participates in the World Democracy Forum 2023 in Strasbourg, France

Paris, France; November 8, 2023: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) proudly participated in the prestigious World Democracy Forum 2023, which took place in Trausbourg, France, from November 6th to 8th. The forum was organized by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the Strasbourg City Council, the European Collectivity of Alsace, the Grand Est Region, and the French Government.

Madame Tanne Bithi Sarder, Vice President of JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF), was among the distinguished participants who convened at this international forum.

Critical Analysis of Violence Against LGBT People in Bangladesh 2022

Shahanur Islam, a prominent human rights lawyer from Bangladesh, delivered a compelling presentation at the "Safer-to-Be-Me" International Symposium held at Sunderland University in England. The symposium, jointly organized on June 22 by the international human rights organization Report Out International and the University of Sunderland, aimed to address the pressing issue of violence against LGBT people.

The event brought together a diverse group of experts and scholars to discuss the challenges faced by the LGBT community and explore potential solutions. Participants included Sarah Ellis, a senior lecturer at Sunderland University, Simon Fox, a public health specialist, Gabrielle Gucci and Damien Berger, gender and sexual minority specialists, Sarah Connolly, a social science lecturer at Sunderland University, Matthew Waits, a reader at the University of Glasgow, Dr. Felicity Daly, a visiting research fellow at the University of London, and Philip R. Crehan.

On May 11 (Thursday), a discussion meeting was held in Brussels, Belgium with the participation of European human rights lawyers to review the current human rights situation in Bangladesh.

Renowned Bangladeshi human rights lawyer and founder of JusticeMakers Bangladesh, Shahanur Islam, attended a project presentation event at the conference hall of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs in France on 03 March 2023.

Moderated by Ms. Delphine Borione, the Ambassador at large for Human Rights Ambassador in France, Shahanur Islam presented the state of human rights in Bangladesh, his journey as a human rights defender, and his project with the Marianne Initiative for human rights defenders in France.

Bangladesh human rights activist and lawyer Advocate Shahanur Islam attend the 21st World Summit on Participatory Democracy held in 7th to 10th December 2022  at Grenoble, France.

More than 600 participants from over 60 countries shared and discussed democratic renewal, climate justice and participatory methodologies at the world summit of cities for democracy.

Shahanur Islam, Honorary Executive Director of Bangladesh Institute of Human Rights and also a leading human rights lawyer, blogger and LGBT campaigner in Bangladesh attend the 7th Asia Pacific Consultation on refugee rights.  The consultation has been held at Hotel Narai, Bangkok, Thailand from 22 to 25 October 2018, organised by Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network.

GHRD successfully concluded its three day symposium: grass roots protection of minority rights, in Mumbai, India in November 7 . The symposium brought together 25 local partners, NGOs, journalists, and lawyers from India, Nepal, and Bangladesh active in the field of human rights, on the issues of human trafficking, Dalits, and religious and indigenous rights.
