Paris, France | 30 January 2026: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) expresses its deep concern, outrage, and strong protest over allegations regarding the death of a young man named Ismail Hossain (22), allegedly due to brutal torture by members of an army patrol on the evening of Thursday, 29 January, in the Kakbashia Bazar area of Ashashuni Upazila, Satkhira District.

The July Mass Uprising Ordinance 2026: Legalized Impunity and a Catastrophe for Justice in Bangladesh

On 25 January 2026, the Government of Bangladesh issued the July Mass Uprising (Protection and Determination of Liability) Ordinance, 2026, a presidential decree that grants sweeping immunity to all participants in the July 2024 uprising. According to the ordinance, all civil and criminal cases filed against the participants are to be withdrawn, no new cases may be filed, and ongoing proceedings are to be stayed upon application. Even in cases of serious criminal allegations, including murder, the ordinance transfers the investigative responsibility from the judiciary to the National Human Rights Commission, while simultaneously shielding current and former law enforcement personnel from accountability in certain circumstances.January 09, 2026

BANGLADESH ALERT: JMBF Expresses Deep Concern and Strong Condemnation Over the Brutal Torture of a Bus Driver by an Assistant Superintendent of Police in Sapahar, Naogaon
Paris, France | 07 January 2026: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) expresses its deep concern, outrage, and strongest condemnation over the brutal torture of an innocent bus driver by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shamoli Rani Barman, her husband, and her bodyguard at the Sapahar Circle in Naogaon district.
Simultaneously, JMBF strongly urges the immediate initiation of an independent, impartial, and credible judicial investigation led by a sitting Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh against the accused Assistant Superintendent of Police, her husband, and the involved bodyguard. JMBF further demands that all accused persons be relieved of all official duties during the pendency of the investigation.

JMBF firmly believes these deaths in police custody, allegedly caused by torture, constitute a gross violation of the Constitution of Bangladesh and the fundamental human rights declared by the United Nations.

Geneva, Switzerland; November 27, 2025: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF)’s Founder President, Advocate Shahanur Islam, delivered a strong oral statement on 27 November 2025 at the United Nations 18th Forum on Minority Issues, highlighting the deteriorating human rights situation facing minority communities in Bangladesh. During his statement, he expressed deep concern over the increasing levels of discrimination, intimidation, and targeted persecution.

JMBF Confirms Swiss Journalist Charlotte Jacquemart as Adviser
Paris,France; 19 November 2025: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) has officially approved Ms. Charlotte Jacquemart, a distinguished Swiss journalist and human rights advocate, to serve as Adviser to the organization under Article 13.1 of its constitution. The confirmation was made on 15 November 2025 during JMBF’s executive meeting, marking a significant strengthening of the organization’s leadership team.
Ms. Jacquemart brings more than two decades of experience in investigative journalism, human rights advocacy, and ethical media practices. A veteran journalist at Swiss Public Radio (SRF) since 2017, she is widely recognized for her commitment to human rights, democratic values, social justice, and freedom of expression—including press freedom, artistic expression, and opinion rights.

JMBF considers this a catastrophic judicial failure, a blatant manifestation of state vendetta, and an act that undermines the very concept of the rule of law.

Paris, France | 09 November 2025: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) expresses profound concern and strongly condemns the brutal and unjustified police attack on primary school teachers who were peacefully demonstrating in Dhaka’s Shahbagh area on 8 November, demanding the fulfillment of their three-point charter.
JMBF firmly believes that such violent repression of teachers is not only inhumane but also constitutes a clear violation of the fundamental constitutional rights to assembly, expression, and peaceful protest, as well as a direct violation of international human rights standards, particularly Articles 19 and 21 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
