Background

JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) is an independent, non-profit, non-partisan international human rights organisation registered in France under the French Law of 1901 on Associations (Registration No. W931027714). JMBF is committed to defending human rights, promoting social justice, and empowering marginalised communities in Bangladesh and beyond. It is also registered in the European Union Transparency Register (Registration No. 0635235105176-78).

JMBF was founded in 2023 by prominent Bangladeshi human rights lawyer and activist Advocate Shahanur Islam, following his completion of the French Republic’s Marianne Initiative programme for human rights defenders. He established the organisation together with a dedicated group of lawyers, social workers, young people, workers’ leaders, women’s rights activists, and LGBTQI+ rights activists based in different parts of the world.

Its establishment followed the founding of JusticeMakers Bangladesh (JMBD) in 2010, which was registered in Bangladesh under trust law. JMBF builds on this earlier commitment to community-centred human rights work, extending its reach through advocacy and cooperation from France.
