The France-based organization, JMBF, characterizes this act as a clear violation of the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Bangladesh, as well as of the universal human rights principles enshrined by the United Nations. It calls for the immediate reversal of this decision and the reinstatement of Redwan Islam to her position.
According to reports published in various media outlets and corroborated by reliable JMBF sources, a press release issued on April 5 (Sunday) and signed by Mamun Khan, Vice-President of the Brahmanbaria District branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal, announced Redwan Islam’s expulsion from the student committee of Syedabad Ideal College.
Redwan Islam had previously been included in the college’s full 51-member committee. Although she initially identified as male in the submitted biodata, she was expelled after her transgender identity became known, reportedly as part of an organizational decision.
JMBF asserts that this incident is not merely an isolated organizational action but rather a stark example of entrenched institutional discrimination, systemic oppression, and ongoing human rights violations against individuals with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations in Bangladesh.
Advocate Shahanur Islam, Founding President of JMBF and a prominent human rights lawyer, stated,“Human rights are neither a favor nor a privilege; they are inherent and inalienable. Yet, the treatment of individuals with diverse gender identities and sexual orientations in Bangladesh demonstrates that society, political organizations, and institutions continue to fall short in upholding the fundamental principles of equality, dignity, and justice. This incident is a troubling reflection of that failure.”
Robert Jean Paul Simon, Chief Advisor of JMBF and a renowned French LGBTQ+ rights activist, remarked, “A person’s gender identity is deeply personal, unique, and fundamentally human. It is neither a crime nor a form of deception, and it must never be subject to punishment. In Redwan Islam’s case, the allegation of ‘concealment of information’ merely reflects a deeply rooted discriminatory mindset.”
JMBF emphasizes that Redwan Islam was appointed to her position on the basis of her cultural expertise and long-standing contributions. Her qualifications were unquestionable; nevertheless, she was removed solely due to her gender identity—an act that constitutes clear discrimination and a violation of fundamental human rights.
JMBF expresses its full solidarity with Redwan Islam and urges the relevant authorities to immediately revoke this unjust decision. The organization further calls upon all political, social, and educational institutions in Bangladesh to recognize gender diversity, uphold the rights of individuals of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations, and foster an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment.

পাশাপাশি ঘটনাটিকে বাংলাদেশ সংবিধানে প্রদত্ত মৌলিক অধিকার এবং জাতিসংঘ ঘোষিত সার্বজনীন মানবাধিকারের সুস্পষ্ট লঙ্ঘন হিসেবে উল্লেখ করে অবিলম্বে এই বহিষ্কারাদেশ প্রত্যাহার করে তাকে স্বপদে পুনর্বহালের জোর দাবি জানাচ্ছে ফ্রান্সভিত্তিক মানবাধিকার সংস্থা জেএমবিএফ।
বিভিন্ন গণমাধ্যমে প্রকাশিত সংবাদ এবং জেএমবিএফ-এর নিজস্ব নির্ভরযোগ্য সূত্রে জানা যায়, গত ৫ এপ্রিল (রোববার) বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী ছাত্রদল ব্রাহ্মণবাড়িয়া জেলা শাখার যুগ্ম আহ্বায়ক মামুন খান স্বাক্ষরিত এক সংবাদ বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে সৈয়দাবাদ আদর্শ মহাবিদ্যালয় ছাত্রদলের সাংস্কৃতিক বিষয়ক সম্পাদক রেদোয়ান ইসলামকে সংগঠন থেকে বহিষ্কার করা হয়।
এর আগে, ওই মহাবিদ্যালয়ের ৫১ সদস্যবিশিষ্ট পূর্ণাঙ্গ কমিটিতে তাকে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা হয়েছিল। কমিটিতে অন্তর্ভুক্তির আগে জমা দেওয়া বায়োডাটায় তিনি নিজেকে পুরুষ হিসেবে উল্লেখ করলেও পরবর্তীতে তার ট্রান্সজেন্ডার পরিচয় প্রকাশ পেলে সাংগঠনিক ব্যবস্থা হিসেবে তাকে বহিষ্কার করা হয়।
জেএমবিএফ মনে করে, এই ঘটনা কোনো বিচ্ছিন্ন সাংগঠনিক সিদ্ধান্ত নয়; বরং এটি বাংলাদেশের বৈচিত্র্যময় লিঙ্গ ও যৌন পরিচয়ের মানুষের বিরুদ্ধে দীর্ঘদিন ধরে চলমান প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক বৈষম্য, নিপীড়ন এবং মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের আরেকটি সুস্পষ্ট উদাহরণ।
জেএমবিএফ-এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি, বিশিষ্ট মানবাধিকার আইনজীবী অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম বলেন, “মানবাধিকার কোনো দয়া বা অনুগ্রহ নয়, এটি মানুষের জন্মগত ও মৌলিক অধিকার। তবুও বাংলাদেশে বৈচিত্র্যময় লিঙ্গ ও যৌন পরিচয়ের মানুষের প্রতি যে আচরণ করা হয়, তা প্রমাণ করে যে সমাজ, রাজনৈতিক সংগঠন এবং প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো এখনও সমতা, মর্যাদা ও ন্যায়ের মৌলিক নীতিকে স্বীকার করতে ব্যর্থ। এই ঘটনা সেই ব্যর্থতারই নির্মম প্রতিফলন।”
জেএমবিএফ-এর প্রধান উপদেষ্টা, প্রখ্যাত ফরাসি সমকামী অধিকারকর্মী রবার্ট জ্যাঁ পল সিমন বলেন, “একজন মানুষের জেন্ডার পরিচয় তার ব্যক্তিগত, স্বতন্ত্র এবং গভীরভাবে মানবিক একটি বিষয়। এটি কোনো অপরাধ নয়, কোনো প্রতারণা নয় এবং কোনোভাবেই শাস্তিযোগ্য নয়। রেদোয়ান ইসলামের ক্ষেত্রে তথাকথিত ‘তথ্য গোপন’ অভিযোগ মূলত বৈষম্যমূলক মানসিকতার বহিঃপ্রকাশ।”
জেএমবিএফ দৃঢ়ভাবে বিশ্বাস করে, রেদোয়ান ইসলামকে তার সাংস্কৃতিক দক্ষতা ও দীর্ঘদিনের কাজের অভিজ্ঞতার ভিত্তিতেই এই পদে অন্তর্ভুক্ত করা হয়েছিল। অর্থাৎ তার যোগ্যতা ছিল অস্বীকারযোগ্য, তবুও শুধুমাত্র তার জেন্ডার পরিচয়ের কারণে তাকে অপসারণ করা হয়েছে, যা স্পষ্টতই বৈষম্যমূলক এবং মানবাধিকার লঙ্ঘনের একটি দৃষ্টান্ত।
জেএমবিএফ রেদোয়ান ইসলামের প্রতি পূর্ণ সংহতি প্রকাশ করছে এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষের কাছে এই সিদ্ধান্ত অবিলম্বে প্রত্যাহারের আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে। পাশাপাশি বাংলাদেশের সকল রাজনৈতিক, সামাজিক ও শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানকে জেন্ডার বৈচিত্র্যকে স্বীকৃতি দেওয়া, বৈচিত্র্যময় লিঙ্গ ও যৌন পরিচয়ের মানুষের অধিকারকে সম্মান করা এবং একটি অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক ও বৈষম্যহীন পরিবেশ গড়ে তোলার আহ্বান জানাচ্ছে।

ALERTE BANGLADESH : JMBF condamne vivement l’exclusion d’une femme transgenre du comité du Chhatra Dal à Brahmanbaria en raison de son identité de genre
Paris, France | 6 avril 2026: JMBF exprime sa vive condamnation et son profond désaccord suite à l’exclusion de Redwan Islam, secrétaire à la culture du Chhatra Dal du Syedabad Ideal College, dans l’Upazila de Kasba à Brahmanbaria, du comité étudiant de cette institution.
L’organisation basée en France, JMBF qualifie cet acte de violation flagrante des droits fondamentaux garantis par la Constitution du Bangladesh ainsi que des droits humains universels proclamés par les Nations Unies, et exige avec insistance l’annulation immédiate de cette décision et la réintégration de Redwan Islam à son poste.
Selon des informations publiées par divers médias et confirmées par des sources fiables de JMBF, le 5 avril (dimanche), un communiqué signé par Mamun Khan, co-président de la branche district du Chhatra Dal à Brahmanbaria, annonçait l’exclusion de Redwan Islam du comité étudiant du Syedabad Ideal College.
Auparavant, Redwan Islam avait été intégré au comité complet de 51 membres de l’institution. Bien qu’elle ait indiqué dans ses informations personnelles initialles qu’elle s’identifiait comme homme, son identité transgenre ayant été révélée par la suite, elle a été exclue en tant que mesure organisationnelle.
JMBF considère que cet incident n’est pas une décision isolée d’un comité, mais un exemple clair de la discrimination institutionnelle, de la persécution et des violations des droits humains auxquelles sont confrontées depuis longtemps les personnes aux identités de genre et orientations sexuelles diverses au Bangladesh.
Avocat Shahanur Islam, président fondateur de JMBF et avocat spécialisé en droits humains, déclare, "Les droits humains ne sont ni une faveur ni un privilège, ce sont des droits fondamentaux et innés. Pourtant, le traitement réservé aux personnes aux identités de genre et orientations sexuelles diverses au Bangladesh démontre que la société, les organisations politiques et les institutions échouent encore à reconnaître les principes fondamentaux d’égalité, de dignité et de justice. Cet incident en est le reflet cruel."
Robert Jean Paul Simon, principal conseiller de JMBF et militant français renommé pour les droits des personnes LGBTQ+, ajoute, "L’identité de genre d’une personne est une affaire personnelle, unique et profondément humaine. Ce n’est ni un crime, ni une tromperie, et en aucun cas un motif de sanction. Dans le cas de Redwan Islam, les accusations de ‘dissimulation d’informations’ reflètent avant tout une mentalité discriminatoire."
JMBF souligne que Redwan Islam avait été intégrée à ce poste en raison de ses compétences culturelles et de son expérience de longue date. Ses qualifications étaient indéniables ; son exclusion basée uniquement sur son identité de genre constitue donc clairement un acte discriminatoire et une violation des droits humains.
JMBF exprime sa solidarité totale envers Redwan Islam et appelle les autorités compétentes à annuler cette décision sans délai. L’organisation exhorte également toutes les institutions politiques, sociales et éducatives du Bangladesh à reconnaître la diversité des genres, à respecter les droits des personnes aux identités de genre et orientations sexuelles diverses et à promouvoir un environnement inclusif et non discriminatoire.
