Police failure to investigate unprovoked attack against Advocate Shahanur Islam, GHRD’s local partner in Bangladesh

On the August 24, GHRD’s local observer and human rights defender, Advocate Shahanur Islam, was subjected to an unprovoked physical assault in Dhaka, Bangladesh. আজ অনলাইন পত্রিকা বিডিনিউজ২৪ এ “কঙ্গোর যুদ্ধবাজ নেতা লুবাঙ্গার ১৪ বছরের জেল” শীর্ষক খবর পড়ে আমার কিছু স্মৃতি কথা মনে পড়ে গেল। ২০০১১ সালের এপ্রিল মাসের কোন একদিন, ঠিক মনে করতে পারছি না, আমি উপস্থিত আছি নেদারল্যান্ডের হেগ শহরে অবস্থিত আন্তর্জাতিক অপরাধ আদালতে। সেদিন আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে কঙ্গোর যুদ্ধবাজ নেতা লুবাঙ্গার বিরুদ্ধে বিজ্ঞ আদালত সাক্ষ্য গ্রহন করছে। সরাসরি নয়, ভিডিও কনফারেন্সের মাধ্যমে। সুদূর কংগো থেকে একজন সাক্ষী সাক্ষ্য দিচ্ছে ভিডিও কনফারেন্সের মাধ্যমে। অভিযুক্ত লুবাঙ্গা বসে আছেন বিচারকদের ডান পাশে তিন লাইন বসার জায়গার শেষ লাইনে।
