Our mission is to promote, defend, and educate on human rights, including civil and political rights, irrespective of sex, caste, race, or faith. We provide legal advocacy and support for Bangladeshi lawyers who are at risk due to their professional work addressing human rights violations.

JMBF is currently seeking passionate and committed Bar Representatives-Lawyers (volunteer, unpaid) for all courts to join our Combatting Violence Against Lawyers in Bangladesh Programme.

Position Overview:

The Bar Representative-Lawyer will be a key part of JMBF’s mission to protect and advocate for lawyers facing harassment, threats, or violence in Bangladesh. This role involves collaboration with local communities, legal professionals, and international networks to ensure the safety and protection of Bangladeshi lawyers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between JMBF and local lawyers experiencing violence or intimidation.
  • Document and report incidents of threats, harassment, or violence against legal professionals.
  • Collaborate with human rights organizations, local legal bodies, and international advocacy groups.
  • Raise awareness about challenges affecting lawyers and promote solutions for their safety.
  • Organize events, campaigns, and seminars on defending lawyers’ rights.

Requirements:

  • A law degree or solid legal background (Bar Council membership is a strong plus).
  • Demonstrated interest in human rights, justice, and advocacy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in both Bangla and English.
  • Proficiency in electronic communication tools and the ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism.
