JMBF urges EU action to protect civic freedoms, ensure accountability and safeguard communities at risk.
Paris, France | 23 October 2026: JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) submitted its human rights briefing to Ms. Anne Vaugier Chatterjee, Policy Officer for Bangladesh at the European External Action Service (EEAS), during a bilateral meeting at EEAS headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, on 23 October 2026.
Presented by Advocate Shahanur Islam, Founder President of JMBF, the briefing covers human rights developments in Bangladesh from 5 August 2024 to 21 October 2026. Drawing on JMBF’s documentation and published sources, it examines reported political reprisals, arbitrary detention, torture, custodial deaths, mob violence and restrictions on civic and academic freedoms, alongside threats to minorities and other communities at risk. JMBF calls for sustained EU engagement to promote independent investigations, fair trials, judicial independence, inclusive political participation and effective protection and remedies for victims, irrespective of political affiliation.
