JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) Joins Torture-Free Trade Network (TFTN)

Paris, France; 09 May 2025 – JusticeMakers Bangladesh in France (JMBF) has officially joined the Torture-Free Trade Network (TFTN), strengthening the global coalition dedicated to preventing torture and promoting human rights on April 25, 2025.

The Torture-Free Trade Network was founded in January 2023 by more than 30 civil society groups who came together in Shoreditch, London, to issue the Shoreditch Declaration for a Torture-Free Trade Treaty. This declaration calls for a binding treaty to prohibit the manufacture and trade of inherently abusive law enforcement equipment such as spiked batons and body-worn electric shock devices. It also advocates for human rights-based controls on more commonly used law enforcement tools like pepper spray, rubber bullets, batons, and handcuffs.

The Network brings together NGOs worldwide that work on torture prevention, combatting police violence, and broader human rights issues. It campaigns for tighter national, regional, and global regulations on the production and trade of law enforcement equipment that can be used for torture and other ill-treatment.

As a member of the Network, JMBF joins a community of like-minded organizations sharing information and coordinating advocacy efforts. Members participate at varying levels of involvement and contribute to the collective push for the establishment of a Torture-Free Trade Treaty at the United Nations.

The Network’s core mission is to advocate for international regulation that curbs the trade of abusive law enforcement equipment, to enhance member organizations’ knowledge about such equipment, and to support coordinated national and regional actions exposing misuse and demanding better regulatory frameworks.

JMBF’s membership represents a significant step forward in expanding the reach and impact of the Torture-Free Trade Network, reinforcing the shared vision of a world where law enforcement equipment is regulated to prevent torture and uphold human rights.*************************************************************************** JMBF is an independent non-profit, nonpartisan human rights organization registered in France with registration number W931027714 under the association law of 1901, dedicated to defending human rights, fighting for justice, and empowering communities in Bangladesh and beyond.
