Prominent Bangladeshi human rights activist and lawyer advocate Shahanur Islam and French human rights activist and Professor Dr. Philippe Benoit attended a bilateral meeting in Paris to discuss ongoing human rights violations in Bangladesh on yesterday 5th May. The meeting was also attended by Moinuddin Khan, a Bangladeshi human rights activist living in Paris.

JusticeMakers Bangladesh Demands Immediate Withdrawal of DSA Case against Jahangir Alam
[Dhaka, Bangladesh] - JusticeMakers Bangladesh, a prominent human rights organization dedicated to upholding justice and protecting freedom of expression, is deeply concerned about the recent case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against Mohd Jahangir Alam, a special correspondent of the news agency United News Bangladesh (UNB) and former vice president of JusticeMakers Bangladesh.
JusticeMakers Bangladesh strongly condemns this act and demands the immediate withdrawal of the case. JusticeMakers Bangladesh also urges the authorities to reevaluate the application of this law and take immediate steps to safeguard the freedom of the press and protect the rights of journalists and human rights defenders.

Bangladeshi human rights lawyer Met with French Foreign Ministry in Paris

গতকাল ২৫ এপ্রিল (মঙ্গগলবার) ফ্রান্স পররাষ্ট্র ও ইউরোপ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয়ের দক্ষিন এশিয়া বিষয়ক প্রদান টিমোথি ট্রুয়েলী’র সাথে জাস্টিসমেকার্স বাংলাদেশ এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা মহাসচিব এবং বিশিষ্ট বাংলাদেশী মানবাধিকারকর্মী ও আইনজীবী অ্যাডভোকেট শাহানূর ইসলাম’র অনানুষ্ঠানিক বৈঠক অনুষ্টিত হয়েছে। পারিসের ফ্রান্স পররাষ্ট্র ও ইউরোপ বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় ভবনে গতকাল বিকাল ৩ টা থেকে ৪টা পর্যন্ত উক্ত বৈঠক অনুষ্ঠিত হয়।

JusticeMakers Bangladesh, a human rights
organization in Bangladesh, expresses grave concern over the recent murder of
Maulana Jalal Uddin Jalali, a gay Islamic religious leader allegedly stabbed to
death in his home in Dhaka on April 20th, 2023.
The rights organisation urges the government to conduct a transparent investigation and ensure a fair trial for the accused, as well as take measures to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

JusticeMakers Bangladesh Launches Urgent Call for Decriminalization of Homosexuality in Bangladesh
In a historic move, human rights group JusticeMakers Bangladesh has launched an urgent call for the decriminalization of homosexuality in the country. The organization has petitioned the Honourable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to repeal Section 377 of the Bangladesh Penal Code, which criminalizes consensual sexual acts between adults of the same sex.

How can society promote equality and respect for LGBTQI+ rights in Bangladesh?

As a society, we often tout our commitment to human rights and equality for all, but the reality for members of the LGBTQI+ community in our country is far from ideal. Discrimination and violence based solely on sexual orientation or gender identity remain prevalent, and progress toward greater acceptance and inclusion has been slow.
